England fans seeking solace from their World Cup woe were shunning Portugal as a holiday destination after the national squad knocked England out of the tournament, travel agents said.
Portugal beat England on penalties after Saturday's goalless quarter-final in Gelsenkirchen, causing misery for England supporters hoping their team could become world champions.
"Last week, Portugal was our fourth most-searched destination -- but since Saturday it's fallen down to 15th place," said John Bevan from online travel agent Lastminute.com.
"We expect interest will bounce back but at the moment the loss is still a bit raw. But we hope that English holidaymakers don't boycott the Algarve for long as a result of the match."
Portugal's southernmost province of Algarve accounts for nearly half of all tourist arrivals to the country. Most visitors arrive during July and August.
British visitors accounted for 40.5 percent of all overnight stays in the province last year, according to figures from the Algarve Hotel and Tourism Businesses Association (AHETA).
The president of the association, Eliderico Viegas, said the decline in interest in the Algarve as a tourist destination was most likely due to a lack of availability of hotel rooms in the province at this time of year.
"I don't believe football would have so much influence. At any rate they are already used to losing to Portugal just like we are used to losing to France," he said.
Portugal defeated England on penalties during World Cup quarter-final match in Germany, just like they did at the same stage of Euro 2004.

天空你没看，偶不等啦！
翻翻字典，就会发现terrific有恐怖、可怕的意思。不过看美国大片的时候，却很少见它被用做“可怕”讲。基本上，它就是指“很棒的”东西，棒的等级大概跟 wonderful 差不多。例如別人问你 Have you watched the game between Argentina and the Netherlands? 你就可以回答：Yes, that's a terrific one.
2. That's awesome.
那真是太棒了。
Awesome 和 terrific 一样，在字典里都有“可怕”的意思。可是一般人们用这个词，都是表达“很棒”的意思。通常老美只讲 awesome 一个词。比如说，有人问你：How do you think of that game? 你就可以说：Awesome! 表示这场比赛真的很精彩。
当一个球队在自己的主场上比赛通常就称为 home game，像这种比赛观众当然都是一面倒地为自己的球队加油，所以我们常说一个队伍在自己的主场上打球有所谓的“主场优势”，用英文讲就是 home advantage。例如，Germany has home advantage against its components. (德国和对手比赛有主场优势。)
另外还有所谓的 home opening game，也就是在主场的开幕战，那更是不得了，本地球迷自不必说，外地球迷也会蜂拥而来呢。
有时我们还会听到老外说 homecoming football game，这又是什么呢？homecoming day 就是校友的返校日，以前毕业的校友可以利用这一天回到母校看一看，而校方也会特意安排一些球赛让这些校友们重新感受一下当年的学生生涯。这一天的football game可是非常隆重。对于在校生来说，能参加这样的比赛是非常荣幸的事情。

足球英语：战绩怎么说
这个 GP就是 Games Played的缩写，意思是“场次”。W、D、L分别是 wins、draws、 losses，就是胜、平、负了。GS代表进球（goals scored），GA 代表失球（goals against），GD代表净胜球（goals difference）。P就是积分（points）了。
下面我们看看句子中都是怎么表达这些意思的。
1. Angola, collecting one point with a 0-1-1 record, currently stand third with one goal conceded.
这是安哥拉赛完两场之后的报道。当时安哥拉是一平一负，进一球，积一分。0-1-1这个表示战果的方法是老美常用的，三个数字代表的顺序是：胜-平-负。0-1-1就是表示 “零胜一平一负”，那个小横杠（-）要读成and，记住不要和几比几的to弄混了哦。这个积分就可以说成是 collect (number) point(s)。而“排第几位”就可以说成是 stand + 基数词。
2. Mexico rank second on four points with four goals scored and three lost.
墨西哥是以小组第二的身份出线的。这个rank second on four points的表达可真够简单明了。我用汉语怎么说都要多出好几个词。
3. We lost by 1 point.
我们输了一分。
在英文要讲赢了几分或是输了几分非常简单，用 win by 和 lose by (通常是用的过去式)就成了。例如“我们赢了七分”就可以说We won by seven. 或是在数字后加上 points 代表赢或输了多少分，比如We won by seven points. 输了几分则把 won 改成 lost，例如 We lost by seven. 或是We lost by seven points.

在这段报道中，box（禁区）我们之前已经接触过，新出现的足球术语有：dispossess（断球），far post（远角），penalty（点球），added time（加时阶段）。既然dispossess 表示“断球”，那“控球”自然就是possess了，所以，在比赛技术统计表上出现的ball possession即“控球时间”。Added time 是“伤停补时”，因此又被称作injury time。

Red card 分开是一个词组，加上连字符也可以做动词使用。“红牌罚下”还可以直接说成 be red-carded。

“出示黄牌”是就裁判这一方来说的。那么，对于球员来说就是“吃了黄牌”，相应的表达法有 pick up a yellow card和 collect a yellow card。
球员犯规，自己招来惩罚，这个“吃了黄牌”还可以说成是 draw a yellow card。例如下面的外电报道：
